Art deco style awnings for Claridges

Morco recreate original art deco awnings for Claridges

28 Jul 2014

Claridges has been a leading name for hotel refinement and luxury for over 100 years and more famously as one of finest examples of art deco splendour in the world. The arrival of a new head chef, Michelin-starred Simon Rogan, has brought about a major refurbishment to Claridges Restaurant including the commissioning of Morco to help faithfully recreate new awnings to the exact specification of the few remaining original art deco awnings found on the facade.

The process was meticulous and fascinating. We originated new templates from the existing awnings, a hybrid of our Signature Greenwich Canopy with a special sleeved arm and an ornate timber box. We then applied forensic attention to a sample of the original fabric weave to create a replica cloth that, although appeared identical, had been impregnated with the most advanced treatments ensuring the quality and durability were unmatched. The final result is a stunning collection of art deco style awnings that look impeccable against that famous frontage.
